How does the cyclone labyrinth function in separating steam from condensate?
The steam that feeds the quench can have condensate in druplet form, or some carry over slugs of condensate can enter the feed lines and find there way to the pump (This is not recommended and can create damage when flashing!). When the Steamquench Optimizer is used the steam feed first enters the cyclone separator that takes out all condensate in fluid form which is discharged to drain or return from the bottom connector. It also functions as a buffer to prevent condensate slugs going to the pump seal.
